Tinnitus
Tinnitus is where a sound is perceived in the ear without an external sound source present. There are multiple reasons for this and the best would be to go and visit a GP first who will exclude systemic and cardiac causes. The second step is to have a hearing test. The audiologist will then most likely refer you to an ENT surgeon. Brain scans are occasionally needed if the tinnitus is one ear or if the hearing tests show certain abnormalities.
