Temporomandibular Joint Disorder

The temporomandibular joint acts like a sliding hinge between your jaw bone and your skull. There are multiple causes for the pain you might experience like clenching or grinding your teeth (often in your sleep). The symptoms are pain or tenderness over your jaw or it presents with ear pain. Pain on opening your mouth or chewing is common, and even tinnitus.

Often the patients present to ENT surgeons as ear pain is the most predominant symptom – they will then refer you to a dentist for further examination. Treatment can include pain medication, bite plate, treatment of the underlying cause and possibly physiotherapy.
