Thyroplasty

This is done when a vocal cord palsy is permanent. A prosthesis is inserted through a window of the thyroid cartilage (Adam’s apple) – so there will be a small incision in the neck. The reason for the vocal cord palsy does not matter. It has a high success rate and most of the time the patient wakes up with a much improved voice.
