Meatoplasty
When the opening of the ear canal (meatus) is too narrow it can lead to recurrent ear infections, wax build up, hearing loss and difficulty in fitting hearing aids. A meatoplasty makes the opening to the ear canal wider by removing a piece of cartilage.
What can the patient expect?
The procedure can be done under general anaesthesia of local anaesthetic and both ears can be done at the same time. There are quite a few stitches palpable and the patient will need to apply an antibiotic ointment every day. In the beginning a ear plug might be inserted. Washing of hair can normally happen after 5-7 days. The wound normally heal after 10-14 days.
