Otoscelosis
Otoscelosis is where is there is abnormal bone growth around the ossicles (mostly the stapes). This can be a hereditary condition (it often skips generations) but it can happen in isolation. The condition leads to conductive hearing loss that starts in most cases after the age of 20 with woman being affected more. A hearing test will be able to assist with the diagnosis. The treatment can consist of hearing aids or surgery called a stapedotomy or stapedectomy. A pre operative CT scan might be done in case of only one ear affected, the hearing test showing an atypical picture, dizziness present or if there was an episode in the past and if the patient is very young.
