Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever or “sinus”, is a reaction to an allergen like dust, animals, pollen, grass etc. The symptoms are normally itchiness of the eyes, palate or ears, runny nose and eyes, blocked nose and constant sneezing. These symptoms can be all year round (like in the case of dust) or seasonal.

A GP, pediatrician or ENT will look for typical signs like dark rings under the eyes or swollen pale turbinates in the nose. The treatment is mostly medical and can consist of an anti-histamin and / or nasal steroids. Allergy tests are not always necessary but if considered might consist of skin prick tests or blood tests. Surgery plays a role of, despite medical treatment, the nose still remains blocked.
