Ear Drum Perforation
Ear drum perforations can present with hearing loss and intermittent discharge. Why does one get perforations? – ear infections / extreme changes in pressure like when diving or flying, trauma and previous grommets. The perforation normally can be closed after the age of six. One can use a microscope or an endoscope.
The advantage of endoscopic ear surgery is a smaller incision, less pain and quicker return to normal activities.
The size and location of the perforation plays a role in the success of the surgery.
