Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
In each ear there are 3 semicircular canals angled at 90 degrees to one another. This plays an integral part in balance. If the crystals (otoliths), that are normally embedded in a gel-like substance, become free floating – it can lead to a spinning sensation lasting seconds to minutes and brought on by head movement. The treatment is a repositioning manoeuvre that can be done by a trained GP, vestibular trained physios, audiologists or any ENT surgeon.
